Interview with Charlotte from the UEL Women’s Basketball Team
Mohamed: Hey Charlotte, thanks for taking the time to chat! So, let’s kick things off—what made you decide to join the UEL basketball programme?
Charlotte: No worries, happy to be here! Honestly, coming over from Spain, I was looking for somewhere I’d feel supported, especially moving to a new country and all. UEL really stood out because I’d heard they have great coaching, plus the facilities are solid. I felt like I’d be in good hands, and honestly, it’s been spot on. The facilities and support have been brilliant!
Mohamed: What about the funding side of things—do you feel like the university invests enough in the team?
Charlotte: Yeah, to be fair, I think they do a great job. UEL covers pretty much everything we need—our kits, equipment, access to facilities—plus the extra support with nutritionists and massage therapy. It’s those little extras that make a real difference, you know? We can just focus on playing and improving, without having to worry about the rest.
Mohamed: Let’s talk about equality—do you feel the women’s team gets the same support as the men’s?
Charlotte: Honestly, I was pleasantly surprised by how equal it is! Everything’s the same between the men’s and women’s teams—funding, facilities, coaching support, all of it. I wasn’t expecting it to be so balanced, but it’s been great. I feel like they actually value us as athletes, and I’ve got no complaints on that front!
Mohamed: With all this support and good vibes around the team, how’s your experience been overall?
Charlotte: It’s honestly been brilliant. I’ve met some great people, and the UEL Women’s Basketball Team has become like family. The coaches and staff are so dedicated and passionate, which makes you want to push yourself even more. And because we’ve got everything we need, it’s easy to just focus on improving and enjoying the whole experience. I didn’t expect it to be this good when I came here, but I’m so glad I did!
