The BCCI has confirmed that the IPL is set to return on Saturday 17th March 2025, with the remainder of the season to take place at six different venues.
The tournament was briefly postponed due to the war that was going on between India and Pakistan. Some of the international players have already left the country to go back to their homes, including Delhi Capitals’ bowler Mitchell Starc.
17 matches in total will be played across six different venues, with the final taking place on the 3rd June 2025. The venue details for the play-off stages will be announced at a later stage, with qualifier 1 taking place on May 29th, eliminator 1 on May 30th, and qualifier 2 on June 1st.
Cities such as Bengaluru, Jaipur, Delhi, Lucknow, Ahmedabad and Mumbai are set to hosts the remaining few games. Royal Challengers Bengaluru vs Kolkata Knight Riders will be the first game to return to our screens.
The fixture between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals will be restarted, as their game in Dharamshala was abandoned due to a floodlight failure. Punjab were 122/1 inside 10.1 overs, with a stunning knock from Priyansh Arya, who made 70 in 34 balls. Prabhsimran was still on the pitch, making 50 in 28 deliveries.
The BCCI says in their statement that “The BCCI takes this opportunity to once again salute the bravery and resilience of India’s armed forces, whose efforts have enabled the safe return of cricket.”
The final of the IPL was meant to take place on the 25th of July, but now that it’s been moved to the 1st of June, this means that it will clash with England’s white ball series against West Indies.
