A woman in her 50s has died after being attacked by her two registered XL Bullies at a house in East London.
Paramedics treated the casualty at her house in Hornchurch on Monday afternoon, however she was later pronounced dead at the scene. Officers are supporting the family of the woman say the Metropolitan Police.
Neighbours, who wish to remain anonymous, have described seeing paramedics administering CPR. “I stood by the road and saw a paramedic administering CPR. That poor woman. It’s shocking.”
The two dogs were contained in a room and then seized by armed officers. It is believed to have been the first fatal attack by XL bullies that were registered under the new laws. From February 1, it became an offence to own an XL bully dog in England and Wales without an exemption certificate. Anyone who owns one must comply to restrictions including having it neutered and microchipped and keeping it muzzled and on a lead in public.
Julia Lopez, the local MP, understands incidents like these will give a rise to the debate on rules of owning an XL bully. She says, “lady affected had those dogs under the new licenses that requires dogs to be neutered, to be chipped, to be muzzled.” “So she was complying with the law.”
Stats show that in 2023, there were 16 deaths due to dog attacks and around 60% of dogs in police kennels, were a breed of bully.
