A major east London shopping centre has been given the green light to have new entrances refurbished.
The Liberty, which is based in Romford, east London, will be part of a multi-year £7 million pound improvement budget from operating company, Redical, which was announced on the 1st of July.
Romford-based shopping centre The Liberty will be part of a multi-year £7 million improvement scheme by operating company Redical, announced on July 1st.
Four planning applications were submitted to Havering Council in June, for fresh signage and digital screens at its entrance.
Two of these applications (A0018.24 and P0798.24) previously remained undecided and had their decision date pushed back from August until October 15.
However, Havering Council have now approved the proposals, which will have new illuminated and non-illuminated signs at the entrance of The Liberty and car parks, as well as new doors for four of these areas.
£500,000 has been invested in car parking, CCTV, cleaning upgrades and a management suite.
Mikko Syrjanen, Redical co-founder, said: “We are serious about unlocking the full potential of our assets and The Liberty Romford is a prime example of this.”
Cameron Gardner, who’s from Romford and still lives in the area, says: “It’s quite cool to see an active area like The Liberty getting an upgrade. It’s already busy as it is, why not make it more popular with a new look?”
The Liberty, which has stores like Primark, Greggs and an official West Ham United store, is a 2-minute walk from another shopping centre in The Brewery, and a 3-minute walk from Romford Station, with Romford Market nearby also.
